StudyLapse Support

StudyLapse turns a study session into a time lapse. Start a session, prop your phone up, and the app tracks your time while quietly building a video of the work.

Common questions

Why did my time lapse stop when I locked the screen?
iOS does not allow any app to use the camera in the background or while the screen is locked. There is no setting or permission that changes this. Your study timer keeps running, and the session recap lists exactly when and why the video paused. To avoid gaps, leave StudyLapse open — it keeps the screen awake for you and dims itself to save battery.
Why is there a green dot in my status bar?
iOS shows it whenever an app is using the camera. It means your lapse is recording. It disappears when you stop the session.
How much storage does a session use?
Roughly 26 MB for a two-hour session at the default 4-second interval. Shorter intervals produce a smoother, longer, larger video. Settings shows a live estimate.
Does this drain my battery?
The camera runs at about one frame per second while the screen is dimmed, which is a small fraction of normal video recording. The screen itself uses more power than the camera does, which is why the session view goes black.
Can I save the video to my Photos library?
Yes. Open a session and tap the share button, then choose Save Video.
The app closed during a session. Did I lose it?
No. StudyLapse saves footage as it goes. Next time you open the app it will offer to recover the unfinished session.
Does StudyLapse record audio?
No. It never accesses the microphone.
Where does my data go?
Nowhere. Everything stays on your iPhone. See the privacy policy.
